Welcome to Delhi - contd.

Overview : As befits a capital city, Delhi has a healthy mix of places to stay, and you'll have no difficulty finding anything from an inexpensive lodge to an extravagant international hotel. Bookings, for upmarket hotels, can be made at the tourist desks at the airports and railway stations, but budget travellers have to do their searching on their own.

The hotels of Connaught Circus cover all price ranges, are handy for banks, restaurants and shops, and have good transport connections to all the main sights.

North of Connaught Circus, the busy market area of Paharganj, is a lively scene of typical Indian city life close to New Delhi railway station, offering the best of the budget accommodation. It is also a place where you can buy anything from other travellers they no longer need: Enfield motor bikes, rucksacks, camping gear, malaria tablets and so forth. The main youth hostel is in the south, where you'll find Delhi's top luxury hotels, most complete with bars, discos, swimming pools and health clubs, and many charging upwards of US$200 a night.
